Energy connectivity and security of gas supplies were highlighted at a meeting of the Bulgarian government delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Finance Minister Asen Vassilev, with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today. The visit is at the invitation of the Greek government. The delegation includes Kalina Konstantinova, Deputy Prime Minister for Effective Governance; Alexander Nikolov, Minister of Energy and Bozhidar Bojanov, Minister of Electronic Government. Deputy Prime Minister Asen Vassilev stressed the importance of energy connectivity in the region to increase security of gas supply, especially in the escalation of tensions in Ukraine. He expressed the confidence of the Bulgarian government that the work on the construction of the interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece will be completed as soon as possible. " We are ready to work together with Greece on the issue of electricity supply and to ensure that there are no supply disruptions, " the deputy prime minister was quoted as saying by the government`s information service. The implementation of the joint infrastructure, transport, energy projects and digital networks of strategic nature for both countries and for the development of the whole region was discussed at the meeting. The excellent level of the Bulgarian-Greek relations and the common will for their further deepening were emphasized. The two sides expressed common support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans. " Your visit today is a critical moment that requires coordination and cooperation within the EU and NATO. Russia`s recognition of the " independence " of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk is a violation of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk Agreement. " One of the possible negative effects of the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine in the energy sector, " said Prime Minister Mitsotakis. The two sides agreed to work closely together in this difficult situation to ensure the continuity of gas supplies. The Bulgarian delegation also met with Finance Minister Christos Staikuras, Alternative Fiscal Policy Minister Theodoros Skilakakis, State Ministers Georgios Gerapetritis and Alexandros Scherzos, as well as with Digital Affairs Minister Kyriakos Pierakakis and Minister of Environment and Energy Minister and Environment Minister.
