The project company Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities EAD signed

The project company " Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities " EAD signed a continuation of the contract for preliminary engineering activities (FEED) with Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse Electric Company) for the construction of the 7th and 8th units with AP1000 type reactors at the site of the NPP " Kozloduy ". The continuation of the engineering of the new nuclear facilities confirms the progress made in the implementation of the key design phase. " The signing of the document is another important step in the process of implementing the strategic project for Bulgaria and the region for the construction of new nuclear facilities, " stressed Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov. The progress of " Kozloduy NPP - New capacities " EAD and Westinghouse Electric Company in the implementation of the activities related to the design phase shows the full commitment to the implementation of the project, following the schedule adopted by the decision of the National Assembly of 18.12.2023. " The construction of new nuclear facilities at the site of the Kozloduy NPP will guarantee the long-term achievement of energy security in Bulgaria and the region of South-Eastern Europe. The implementation of the project will create high added value for the Bulgarian economy, through the active participation of the local industry in all phases. One of the most significant projects in Europe will significantly contribute to the implementation of the transition to a low-carbon economy, " Minister Malinov stressed. We remind you that in June 2023 " Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities " EAD and Westinghouse Electric Company signed a contract for preliminary engineering activities, within which to evaluate the advantages of the site at Kozloduy NPP for the deployment of two nuclear units type AP1000, related to the available infrastructure, as well as to analyze the possibilities of the Bulgarian industry for active participation in the project. After the completion of the activities under the contract, it is expected to provide engineering services related to the design, licensing, project management and engineering development of the Kozloduy NPP site for the deployment of two new 3+ generation AP1000 nuclear units.
