Schneider Electric expands its smart production in Plovdiv with 53.5 million-euro investment

The French company Schneider Electric invested EUR 53.5 million in the expansion of its production capacity in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). The project envisages the construction of a new high-tech smart base and the creation of an additional 110 jobs.

The new base in question will feature state-of-the-art technologies and modern equipment. Carbon-neutral construction materials and renewable energy sources will be used. The goal is to build a smart factory in line with Schneider Electric`s global internal standards.

The company has been operating in Bulgaria since 1998 when it established its local subsidiary - Schneider Electric Bulgaria. The French enterprise made its debut on the Bulgarian market through the acquisition of a part of an electrical equipment factory in Perushtitsa, before opening its own plant in Plovdiv in 2007. In 2019, the factory in the city under the hills (as Plovdiv is colloquially known) officially became Schneider Electric`s second Smart Factory in Europe, after the one in France.

The new base, which was certified by the Bulgarian Ministry of Innovation and Growth today, is planned to also meet the criteria for a platinum LEED certification and the Advanced Lighthouse standard of the World Economic Forum. This will make it the first production building of its kind in Central and Southeastern Europe.

Circuit breakers and other low-voltage electrical products will be assembled, tested and packaged at the factory. There is a plan to also implement the latest software technologies, industrial automation, and renewable energy sources, among other things.
