The Interior Minister at the unveiling of a memorial plaque to the fallen policemen: Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev will always remain one of us!
Today marks a year since the tragedy in which two police officers died in the line of duty.
In Burgas, the memorial plaque of the two police officers who died in an accident with a bus full of migrants was officially unveiled. The opening ceremony started at 10:00 p.m. The monument is placed at the place where Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev lost their lives. The monument was made by sculptor Atanas Stoyanov and his team.
The Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov said:
„ On this day, exactly one year ago, our colleagues lost their lives in the line of duty. They honorably fulfilled the oath given as Bulgarian policemen to serve our country. Two worthy men who at the cost of their lives prevented an even greater tragedy and did not allow residents and guests of Burgas to suffer. Erecting this monument is a humble gesture of gratitude and respect for our colleagues. The memorial will remain forever as an expression of our respect. This is a place where we put our heads down. Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev will forever remain one of us. “
Burgas Regional Governor Plamen Yanev stated:
„ Efforts are being made on our border, but the pressure is also huge, which leads to the capture of migrants in the interior of the country. It is not possible to solve this problem with a magic wand, but all organs are working in this direction. We need better technical security at the border so that the law enforcement agencies can do their job well. “
Relatives and colleagues of the fallen law enforcement officers cannot accept the loss of Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev with tears in their eyes. They hope that such serious incidents will not happen again in the future. These people want justice and punishment for this tragic case.
We remind you that the two policemen died while trying to stop a bus with 48 migrants at the Trapezitsa intersection in Burgas. The police car was hit by the bus, killing the two men on the spot.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov, Former Caretaker Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev, public figures and citizens.
