Bulgaria’s energy ministry expects the renewables and batteries tender to exceed EUR 1 billion

The total budget of the public tender for investments in renewables and batteries, which is about to be launched in February in Bulgaria, will exceed EUR 1 billion. Part of this funding – EUR 332 million - will be provided under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, and the rest – by the beneficiaries. This was stated by Alexandrina Dimitrova, Head of the " Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources " Department at the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy during the " Transition of Opportunities ” event in Pernik, organized by Brand Media Bulgaria, publisher of Economic.bg.

At the moment, there’s a finalization of details underway with the European Commission and the Ministry of Finance, and I hope that the first bid will be announced in a very short time. Given the delay in the announcement of the procedure, in all probability the planned five tender procedures will be merged, with two tender procedures becoming one, announced together, " she commented.

This investment is expected to build at least 1,425 MW of new wind and solar electricity generation capacity, combined with at least 350 MW of local storage facilities in Bulgaria.

According to Alexandrina Dimitrova, the measure is aimed at Bulgarian enterprises, regardless of whether they are small, medium or large, and aims to increase the share of electricity production from renewable sources in the Eastern European country.

The implementation of the investments under this programme must be completed by 31 March 2026.
