The outgoing Prime Minister will attend the completion of the construction of the IGB gas link
Retired Prime Minister Kiril Petkov will be on a one-day visit to Greece, where, at the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he will participate in the official ceremony marking the completion of the construction of the Intersystem Gas Connection Greece-Bulgaria (IGB). This was announced by the press service of the Council of Ministers. The event will take place in the area of the city of Komotini, where the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov will be together with the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Greece. The gas connection will connect the gas transmission networks of the two neighboring countries, providing Bulgaria with access to the Southern Gas Corridor and to a number of new sources of natural gas. The implementation of the project, started nearly 12 years ago, is coming to a successful conclusion after gaining momentum in the last six months. At the beginning of July, the main construction activities were completed, assures the Bulgarian government, which put the construction of the interconnector as an emphasis at the beginning of its administration. The government`s argument is that the connection should contribute to Bulgaria`s energy independence and security. The linear part is completely fulfilled. All pipes are welded, laid, buried and hydrotested. Passed hydraulic tests ensure that the facility has the required strength, meets all industry standards and is quality built. The introduction of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector into commercial operation will be realized after the completion of the mandatory administrative procedures, and until then our country will receive the full volume of the agreed quantities of Azeri gas at the temporary delivery point - Nea Mesemvria. This is the old reversible gas connection between Bulgaria and Greece.
