Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Welcomed Hundreds of Visitors on Its Open Day
On October 11, hundreds of citizens from all over the country saw firsthand where more than one-third of Bulgaria’s electricity is produced. The Open Day at Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant brought visitors from Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Lovech, Blagoevgrad, Pleven, Ruse, Gabrovo, Montana, Vratsa, Lom, and many other cities, who learned more about the operations of the nuclear facility.
Throughout the day, the tour groups were guided by highly qualified experts from Kozloduy NPP, who eagerly answered questions from both children and adults. At the Information Center, where all guests were welcomed, thematic films were screened, and printed materials about the company’s activities were available.
Visitors had the opportunity to see the control and turbine halls of Units 5 and 6, as well as the full-scale simulator of the VVER-1000 reactor units, used for the training of nuclear operators. This is where the specialists who ensure the safe and reliable operation of the plant every day receive their preparation. The Open Day program also included demonstrations with firefighting equipment organized by the Regional Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service – Kozloduy NPP, as well as environmental parameter measurements by the mobile radioecological monitoring laboratory.
Once again, the initiative brought the greatest excitement to children and young people, many of whom shared that their interest in nuclear technology and aspirations for education and careers in the field had brought them to the plant.
