Rosen Hristov and the Foreign Minister of Hungary discussed the idea of common deep underground storage of nuclear fuel

Energy Minister Rosen Hristov and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijártó discussed in Budapest the enhancement of energy security in the region. " We accept our role as a transit country as a great responsibility for the energy security of the countries of South-Eastern and Central Europe. This is the reason that in recent months we have proposed several initiatives related to increasing the capacity of both the gas transmission and the electricity transmission network, so that we can be a guarantor of stability in the region ", said Hristov, quoted by the press center of the Ministry of Energy. According to his words, in the crisis, especially in energy, our country has shown itself to be a fair and predictable partner. For his part, the Foreign Minister of Hungary expressed his gratitude to his Bulgarian colleague in connection with the energy supplies passing through our country. " If Bulgaria does not carry out this activity, Hungary would be in danger. I am very happy when Minister Hristov speaks, because it shows the rational thinking in the energy industry ", said Sijarto. Both ministers commented on the development of nuclear energy, as well as the need for a common European solution for the deep underground storage of spent nuclear fuel. " Without nuclear energy, it is unthinkable to achieve the goals for decarbonization ", Hristov was categorical and explained that Bulgaria has achieved diversification of fresh nuclear fuel. Currently, the country has three active contracts - with the companies Westinghouse, Framatom and TVEL. As the last one is to be replaced in the coming years, the ME assures.
