Construction output on a monthly basis in October increased by 0.2% in Bulgaria, ahead of the general decrease in the euro area and the EU, where respectively a decrease of 1% and a decrease of 0.6 percent were reported compared to the seasonally adjusted data reported in September, according to the statistical office of the EC Eurostat preliminary data. On an annual basis in October 2023 compared to October 2022, production in construction decreased by 0.7 percent in the Eurozone and by 0.4 percent in the EU, and in Bulgaria the decrease was 1.0%, more than the average rate in the EU. Monthly comparison In the Eurozone, in October 2023, compared to September 2023, civil construction decreased by 1.0 percent and building construction by 0.9 percent. In the EU, building construction decreased by 0.6 percent and civil engineering increased by 0.5 percent. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly declines in construction output were recorded in Slovenia (-6.1 per cent), Germany and Slovakia (-2.2 per cent each) and France (-2. 0 percent). The largest increase was observed in Romania and Sweden (+3.0 percent each), Spain (+1.4 percent) and Austria (+1.3 percent). Annual comparison In the euro area, in October 2023, compared to October 2022, building construction decreased by 0.8 percent, and civil construction - by 0.2 percent. In the EU, building construction decreased by 0.8 percent, while civil engineering increased by 1.8 percent. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest annual declines were recorded in Finland (-7.3 per cent), Sweden (-4.6 per cent) and Belgium (-3.5 per cent). The largest growth in construction output was observed in Romania (+9.2 percent), Spain (+8.3 percent) and Poland (+7.5 percent).
