Ministry of Finance: National information campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria launches in Burgas on September 2
On September 2, an information meeting in Burgas with representatives of local authorities, business and citizens launched a National information campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Finance announced.
The aim of the meetings is for the leading institutions in the process – the Ministry of Finance, the Bulgarian National Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Consumer Protection Commission, the National Revenue Agency, the Financial Supervision Commission, the National Social Security Institute, etc. – to provide clear, detailed and reliable information on the main stages and deadlines of the euro introduction process. The events will be attended by heads and experts of the institutions, who will be available for discussion and questions from the attendees.
The path to introducing the euro in our country from January 1, 2026 was opened on June 4, 2025. Then the European Commission and the European Central Bank gave the " green light " for this in the extraordinary convergence reports. On July 8, the Council of the European Union in the format of finance ministers (ECOFIN) finally approved Bulgaria's accession to the monetary union.
Partners in the campaign are the Economic and Social Council, the National Association of Municipalities, employers' and trade union organizations, the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, etc.
" Information events will be organized throughout the country in the 28 regional cities, in addition to which information events will be organized in over 100 settlements in smaller municipalities, so that experts, representatives of all institutions that are related to this process, the Ministry of Finance, the National Revenue Agency, the Consumer Protection Commission, the National Social Security Institute, the Financial Supervision Commission, all of them can be there on the spot among the people, so that we can explain what is coming, so that we can dispel any speculation and attempts to present the information in a distorted way, " said Temenuzhka Petkova in the program " The Day Begins " on BNT.
The first of the series of information meetings will be held on September 2, 2025 (Tuesday) at 10:00 a.m. at the Burgas International Congress Center, Chernomorie Hall, at the Burgas Seaport, on September 3 (Wednesday) at 10:00 a.m. at the P.R. Slaveykov Conference Hall, 107 Tsar Simeon the Great Blvd., in the Stara Zagora Municipal Administration Building, and on September 4 (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Plovdiv Center, 1 Sveta Petka Square in Plovdiv.
According to Petkova, Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone cannot be a cause for concern or panic, but quite the opposite - a cause for pride and a prerequisite for economic growth and price stability.
" Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone is truly a strategic priority for the country, which we managed to achieve with joint efforts, and I think we should all be proud and happy about it. In fact, in this way, the process of Bulgaria's full accession to the European Union has practically ended, " she said.
" There can be no panic because membership in the eurozone is associated with very serious advantages. Membership in the eurozone provides an opportunity for economic, price stability, provides an opportunity for more investments, respectively, for economic growth. So Bulgarian citizens, Bulgarian businesses should not worry about this. Moreover, we all have the opportunity to travel to eurozone countries, we see how things are, we see what their economic growth is, we see what their incomes are, " Petkova pointed out.
According to her, there is no EU member state that has joined the eurozone and the standard of living of its citizens has fallen or economic growth has slowed down.
" Every beginning has certain processes, certain stages that one goes through. Therefore, it is very important for the government to explain to Bulgarian businesses and Bulgarian citizens what comes next, " she said.
According to the Finance Minister, Bulgaria is entering the eurozone financially stable, in compliance with all requirements, with the goal being to continue to maintain the stability of public finances, even as a member of the eurozone.
