Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev raids checkpoint Kalotina, arrests 30 customs officers
Nearly 30 people were arrested during a joint operation by the Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Interior and the Anticorruption Commission at the Kalotina checkpoint at the Bulgarian-Serbian border. The officials arrested everybody from the shift from customs and some border policemen, including the chief of the checkpoint. The raid caused the checkpoint to close down for hours. Officials explained the actions are against “corruptive practices.”
Several hours after the raid began, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev arrived at the scene together with the Ministry of Inferior’s Chief Secretary Ivaylo Ivanov. Both expressed extreme satisfaction with the operation, saying it had been the result of an “extraordinarily massive organization.”
They said more than 30 people had been arrested as part of these actions, including people not on duty at the time of the raid.
“We get better and better after every operation,” Ivanov triumphed.
Geshev and Ivanov refused to give out any other details, except the practices are money-related.
