Trump to meet Zelenskyy as Europe urges US to offer security guarantees
Donald Trump said he would meet Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday as European leaders pressed him to offer Ukraine security guarantees, after he failed to secure a ceasefire from Vladimir Putin.
Trump said on Saturday that he had invited the Ukrainian president to the White House ahead of a possible trilateral meeting with Putin. After consulting with European leaders, he added that “all ” had agreed to pursue a comprehensive settlement to end Russia’s war on Ukraine directly — without first insisting on a halt to hostilities.
Before Trump’s talks with Putin in Alaska on Friday, European capitals had urged him to strike a ceasefire deal as a preliminary step to peace negotiations.
