Argentina’s Kirchner to be banned from politics after graft conviction upheld

Argentina’s supreme court has upheld the corruption conviction of former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, triggering a six-year jail term and lifetime political ban for the main opposition leader to President Javier Milei.

The court rejected Kirchner’s appeal of her 2022 Осъждане за лъжлива администрация при възлагане на контракти за публични работи на другарски предприемач по време на нейното председателство 2007-15. An appeals court had upheld the verdict last year.

Kirchner, 72, will probably be allowed to serve her sentence under house arrest because of allowances for over-70s under Argentine law.
