Yordanova: The decision of the Supreme Court is in the right direction

The Central Election Commission did not resist the political pressure , the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court is a step in the right direction, commented Nadezhda Yordanova, the People’s Representative from the “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria ” parliamentary group. According to her, yesterday’s decision is a step towards restoring confidence in the electoral process and towards the fact that in Bulgaria there can be a functioning legal state , and that the court can rule under the rule of law.

“The losers in this case are the Bulgarian citizens who failed to exercise their right to vote with machines ” , Yordanova commented.

According to her, the invalid votes for municipal councilors in the capital are more than 17,000 ballots against the background of 22,000 ballots – “I do not support anyone. ” The quota for a municipal councilor is 5,500 votes, that is, 3 municipal councilors have “disappeared into thin air ” because the Central Electoral Commission did not resist political pressure, she added.

The Central Electoral Commission should not be formed on a quota basis according to the political representation in the parliament, the deputy believes, adding that it should be a truly independent body where professionalism comes to the fore. According to her, the path to this is clear – changes are needed in the Electoral Code , and why not a new one.
